Our BTEC Health and Social Care students were treated to four hours with an expert in holistic therapy.
Caroline Raymond specialises in aromatherapy, Reiki healing, crystal therapy and colour therapy, and gave the students an in-depth talk about each. This included identifying different crystals and learning the history behind each of these complementary and alternative therapies.
Sarah-Jane Lewis, course lecturer at NSETC, says: “It’s important for the students to realise that not all strategies for care are medical, and sometimes service users want to use other forms of treatment.
“To broaden the students’ knowledge they have learnt about complementary and alternative therapies available in the area either privately or through the NHS. It also brings the subject to life to have guest visitors at NSETC. Students gain vital knowledge and hands on experience.”
There were also practical aspects to the lecture, including a session on how to massage hands correctly.
