ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

5 A*-C GCSEs, including grade C in Maths and English.

SKILLS NEEDED

Some understanding and enthusiasm for Business is required. A qualification in GCSE Business Studies or BTEC Level 2 in Business is not required however would be advantageous.

SKILLS DEVELOPED

Students will be able to develop cognitive and problem-solving skills, they will use critical thinking and approach non-routine problems using expert and creative solutions.

Interpersonal skills, communication, collaborative working, self-preservation and the ability to use systems and technology will also be developed.

What will I study?

This course is for post-16 students who want to continue their education through applied learning.

It is equivalent to three A Levels and has been designed as a full two-year programme.

The qualification aims to provide a wide- ranging study of the sector. It is primarily designed for students who wish to pursue a career in business, primarily via higher education to access graduate entry employment with businesses, or alternatively through junior business employment.

 

Why study Business?

This course gives students practise in developing employability skills and students will be given the opportunity to constantly apply what they are learning in the classroom to their assignments, through linking every business concept to their chosen business.

 

Where will this course lead me?

The qualification could lead to degrees in business and management, business studies, international management and more.

Students could also progress directly into employment, however it is likely many will do so via higher study. Areas of employment include junior business roles in marketing, administration, nance, events management, human resources, and other related areas in the business sector, including Higher Apprenticeships.

Assessment

The qualification consists of 13 units, four of which are externally assessed.

Mandatory units include:

  • Exploring business
  • Developing a marketing campaign
  • Personal and business nance
  • Managing an event
  • International business
  • Principles of management
  • Business decision making.
Extracurricular activities related to this course

Students will have the opportunity to engage in several extra-curricular activities.

Extra-curricular activities have included activities such as Young Enterprise competition and a research project for Brexit.
